World Rankings and Academic Strength
Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) enjoys a global reputation. According to the 2025 CWUR World University Rankings, RUB is ranked 325th worldwide, placing it among the top 1.6% of universities globally. In the U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings, RUB is ranked 369th. In the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, RUB is ranked in the 251–300 range. Within Germany, RUB ranks approximately 23rd in overall academic strength.
The university has established partnerships with numerous universities worldwide and is one of the founding members of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), which currently has 120,000 students and nearly 1,500 professors. In the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) rankings of priority research areas, RUB has previously ranked second.
