Founded in 1964, La Trobe University was the third university established in Victoria. When it officially opened in 1967, it enrolled just 552 students. As one of Australia’s earliest pioneers in promoting universal access to higher education, the university was founded with the aim of expanding opportunities for higher education in northern Melbourne and regional Victoria.
