The “Sign Language Interpreting” program at the Stendal Campus is unique among the universities of applied sciences in Germany; the “Water Engineering” master’s degree is a fully English-language program focusing on drinking water supply, wastewater treatment, hydrology, and restoration ecology; and the “Human-Technology Interaction” master’s degree is a “one-of-a-kind” program that is not found anywhere else in the world. The field of engineering is a traditional strength of the university. The process of getting a Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal Urkunde is never as simple as just sitting in a classroom and listening to lectures. The core philosophy of the school is written in its basic statutes: “Teaching, research and further education are focused on the needs of social practice.”
This philosophy is translated into every major in the form of practical requirements. The standard study year for electrical/information engineering is nine semesters, and students are selected exclusively by their practice partners; the dual undergraduate program in business management admits only dual students, and the scheduling and content of the theoretical and practical phases are governed by a written agreement. The university has established partnerships with more than 100 universities around the world, and the “Dual Degree Program” allows students to obtain degrees from both the university and the partner university abroad.
