
School Structure and Degree Programs
URI has eight undergraduate colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Engineering, the College of Environmental and Life Sciences, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Nursing, and the College of Pharmacy. The university offers more than 100 majors and minors, as well as 4+1 combined bachelor’s-master’s programs in more than 30 fields.
For the 2025–26 academic year, the university has added new undergraduate programs, including a Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies and an online RN-to-BSN program, as well as five new master’s programs in fields such as Management, Engineering Management, and Leadership. Admissions Policies and Criteria
URI implements a test-optional policy. For the class of 2025, the median GPA range for admitted students was 3.40–4.12, and the median SAT score range was 1180–1350. The admission rate is approximately 72%, classifying the university as moderately selective. International students must submit language proficiency scores, with a minimum TOEFL score of 79 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5.
International Student Population and Cultural Diversity
URI students come from 68 countries worldwide, and 27% of freshmen self-identify as students of color. Students from 47 states come together here, fostering a diverse and inclusive campus culture. The university has dedicated offices committed to creating an inclusive environment and broadens students’ international perspectives through more than 200 study abroad programs.
Internship Opportunities and Partner Companies
Through the Center for Career and Experiential Education (CCEE), URI provides comprehensive career development support to students. The Handshake platform serves as the university’s central career management system, aggregating a vast number of internship and full-time opportunities. The university regularly hosts various career fairs—the College of Engineering and Technology Career Fair attracts over 100 companies, while the College of Business Career Fair has featured 62 organizations. Partner companies include well-known firms such as ESPN, Hasbro, and RTX Corporation.
Employment Rates and Graduate Outcomes
URI graduates’ career prospects are impressive—over 90% of graduates secure employment or enroll in graduate school within six months of graduation. The five-year employment rate for graduates stands at 95%. In 2025, URI received 28,036 applications from incoming freshmen, setting a new record. The university awarded scholarships totaling $156 million, with over 90% of students receiving some form of financial aid.
