Faculty and Student-to-Faculty Ratio

HTW Saar boasts a highly qualified faculty. The university currently has approximately 6,000 enrolled students and about 116 to 130 faculty members. The faculty not only possess strong academic backgrounds but also extensive practical industry experience—professors at universities of applied sciences must have many years of experience in corporate management roles before being appointed, which enables them to strike a perfect balance between theory and practice in their teaching. Student evaluations frequently describe professors as “approachable and easy to communicate with”; high-quality faculty-student interaction is a defining feature of campus life at HTW Saar. In the 2026 CHE University Rankings, several programs received the highest ratings in the “Faculty Support” and “Academic Guidance” categories.

Arts Venues and Cultural Activity Center

htw saar offers a vibrant campus cultural life. Students can use their htw saar card to receive free tickets to performances at the Saarland State Theater, the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Saarbrücken Chamber Concerts. The university has a student choir that performs contemporary repertoires such as pop, jazz, and world music, and welcomes beginners; there is also a student theater troupe that puts on a performance on campus at the end of each semester. The most distinctive annual event is the alt_sommer” summer street festival—students transform the Alt-Saarbrücken campus into an open-air street festival, open to the entire city for four consecutive nights, featuring live music, food, and a relaxed festival atmosphere. This event is independently planned, organized, and executed by students in the Master’s program in Cultural Management.

Industry-Academia Collaboration and On-Campus Recruitment

HTW Saar maintains a close symbiotic relationship with the regional economy. The university has established a network of over 300 industry partners. Its Institute for Technology Transfer (FITT) collaborates closely with approximately 80 companies. The university has launched the AKJ Automotive expert network (focused on the automotive value chain) and the AAL Saar regional assisted living network, and has established the “Zentrum Mittelstand Saar” (ZMS)” to support the sustainable development of small and medium-sized enterprises. Through in-depth collaboration with businesses, the university not only transforms research findings into marketable products but also creates numerous opportunities for students to engage with the cutting edge of the industry.

Internship Opportunities and Partner Companies

HTW Saar’s dual-track (cooperative education) program is a prime example of the integration of theory and practice. Students sign contracts with partner companies and work for the company 8 to 10 hours per week during each semester while attending school, and full-time during school breaks. This allows students to gain extensive work experience and participate in high-level development projects, while companies can cultivate highly qualified talent early on. The university’s partner companies include internationally renowned firms such as Hager, Villeroy & Boch, and Saarstahl. Summer programs also arrange visits for students to world-class companies such as Festo, ZF, and Michelin. The university’s SaarIng program offers international engineering graduates an 11-month paid course and internship to help them secure long-term employment. The retention rate for graduates in the dual-track program is as high as 70%.
