In the CHE university rankings released in May 2025, the Technical University of Dortmund’s undergraduate program in Biochemical and Chemical Engineering was ranked No. 1 in Germany. Students surveyed gave the program extremely high marks for its overall learning environment and teaching quality. The undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology also ranked among the top ten in Germany—with the Electrical Engineering program being named one of the top ten in Germany across all three dimensions: course organization, teaching quality, and admission support. Student ratings were equally impressive: 4.5 stars for Mechanical Engineering and 4.8 stars (out of 5) for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Computer Science: 4,200 Students and an Annual Output of 1,200 ICT Professionals
TUD’s School of Computer Science is one of the oldest in Germany and ranks among the largest in the country. Currently, the school has approximately 4,200 students and ranks among the top computer science departments nationwide. Each year, the university graduates approximately 1,200 professionals in information and communication technology (ICT). These graduates can find employment at companies such as banks, insurance firms, multimedia service providers, or consulting firms. Additionally, the technology park near the campus is home to numerous well-known companies, providing students with convenient access to job opportunities. It is worth noting that all English-taught master’s programs offered by the university are tuition-free; students only need to pay a registration fee of approximately 320 euros per semester, which significantly reduces the cost of studying abroad for international students.
A Dedicated Path for International Students: From Campus to the German Job Market
The Technical University of Dortmund has charted a clear career path for international students. The university has approximately 6,000 international students, accounting for nearly 20% of the total student body. In early 2024, the International Office launched “Career Companion,” a digital self-study program—a career planning tool designed specifically for international students that covers three key modules: career fundamentals, application processes, and employability skills. Within just 48 hours of its launch, 230 students had registered.
