History and heritage: rapid growth from teachers’ college to national university

The University of Cassino has a short history, but an important regional educational mission: between 1964 and 1968, the Teachers’ College and the Consortium of Universities of Cassino were founded in Cassino. In 1979, the University of Cassino was founded as an Italian public research university.

The young university has grown rapidly from a single teacher training college to a comprehensive university covering a wide range of disciplines, including humanities, engineering, economics, law, and sports science. Located at the crossroads of the four regions of Lazio, Campania, Molise and Abruzzo, the university attracts a large number of students from south-central Italy. By virtue of its unique geographical location and quality educational resources, the University of Cassino has become an important cultural reference point in south-central Italy.

Academic prestige and rankings: a steady rise in international recognition

As a young university, the University of Cassino has a decent international ranking. It is ranked 1,419th in the US News World’s Best Universities 2025-2026. In the CWUR World University Rankings, the University of Cassino is ranked 1782nd, which is in the top 8.4% of the world, and 64th within Italy. In the QS Sustainability University Rankings 2026, it is ranked in the 1301-1400th percentile.

These rankings are not as good as those of the top Italian universities, but for a young university founded just over 40 years ago, they are a testament to its rapid rise and growing international influence. The Università di Cassino Diploma is a testament to competence

Campus facilities and environment: modern campus of the “Castle University”.

The University of Cassino is known as the “Castle University” and its main campus is located in the Folcara area of the town of Cassino. The campus is surrounded by greenery and is equipped with spacious classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, as well as recreational and sports areas.

There are 54 teaching and research facilities, as well as many multimedia classrooms, 3 libraries (belonging to the fields of Law, Economics, Engineering and Humanities). The sports facilities are also great: there are 2 multi-purpose sports fields, a 1,500 square meter indoor gymnasium, tennis and cricket courts, a swimming pool, an athletics track, and a gym with indoor climbing facilities at European level. The halls of residence on campus provide 346 beds, 24 of which are for disabled students. The recent construction of a new building that meets EU ** energy standards and is powered by renewable energy demonstrates the university’s commitment to the environment.

Location and urban resources: an academic hub between Rome and Naples

The location of the University of Cassino is unique: it is halfway between Rome, Italy’s largest city, and Naples, the third largest city, at the confluence of the Liri and the Rapido rivers. This location makes the university a major transportation hub connecting the four regions of south-central Italy.

The city of Cassino itself has many historical sites, such as the archaeological area in the southwest of the city, which preserves very famous buildings such as the amphitheater from the Roman era. Cassino is also famous for its thermal baths. For students, the cost of living in Cassino is much lower than in the big cities of Rome and Naples – the average monthly rent for a single room in a shared apartment is only 220 euros (including utilities and property costs). This advantage of being “next to a big city and spending in a small city” makes the University of Cassino an ideal place for many students who want to save money on their studies.
