A ‘Living Laboratory’ within a City: A Campus in Harmony with Nature
Murdoch University’s main campus is situated in Perth, the capital of Western Australia, covering an area of 229 hectares. This land was originally a pine plantation, but has now become an ecologically rich area teeming with biodiversity. Adjacent to 3,400 hectares of protected wetlands, the campus is a veritable biodiversity hotspot . Even more remarkably, Murdoch University is the only research university in Australia to have an on-campus farm within an urban setting. These unique geographical conditions transform the entire campus into a ‘living laboratory’ – from forest ecology to fire management, and from environmental engineering to the conservation of endangered species, staff and students conduct their research directly on this land. The campus is also home to Boola Katitjin, Western Australia’s largest large-scale engineered timber building. This four-storey, 180-metre-long structure, with its design concept adapted to the climate and environment, demonstrates Murdoch’s firm commitment to sustainable development.
Graduates speak for themselves: employment rates top the nation

Murdoch University is not only renowned in Australia. It has five campuses across three countries—Perth, Rockingham and Manjela—as well as international campuses in Dubai and Singapore. Established in 2007, the Dubai campus is situated in the heart of Dubai Knowledge Park and is one of only three Australian universities in the United Arab Emirates. This ‘one university, three countries’ model allows students to study across different continents and cultural environments – starting in Singapore or Dubai before continuing their studies in Australia. Murdoch also collaborates with over 60 universities across Europe, the Americas and Asia, providing students with further opportunities for overseas exchange and study.
