Campus Transport: Nine Campuses and Convenient Commuting
North Metropolitan TAFE has nine campuses, covering the northern and north-eastern areas of the Perth metropolitan region. The Perth Campus (Northbridge) is situated in the heart of Perth’s cultural centre, adjacent to the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the State Library and the Museum of Western Australia, and surrounded by cafés, restaurants, bars and shops.
The campus boasts excellent transport links – it is just a 3-minute walk from Perth Central Station and a 5-minute walk from the Central Bus Terminal, whilst the free CAT bus service running through Perth city centre makes commuting extremely convenient. The Midland campus is just a five-minute walk from Midland Station, situated at the confluence of Blackade Creek and Woodbridge Creek in the Black Swan Valley region. It features specialist trade workshops, a hairdressing salon, an operational nursery, and conservation and land management sites. Where can I get a sample? Teaching Staff: Experts Teaching You Practical Skills
North Metropolitan TAFE’s teaching team is built on industry experience. The college has over 1,400 staff members across nine campuses. When recruiting, the college prioritises professionals with first-hand industry experience. In addition, staff are qualified to deliver training and assessment (Certificate IV in Training and Assessment), enabling them to effectively translate industry insights into learning content suitable for adult learners.
Teaching Model: Flexible, interactive small-group classes combining online and on-campus learning
North Metropolitan TAFE employs a blended learning approach based on an adult learning environment. To cater to the needs of working adults and distance learners, the college offers face-to-face courses alongside virtual classrooms and online learning platforms, allowing students to choose where they study according to their individual circumstances. Thanks to smaller class sizes, every student has more opportunities for direct interaction with lecturers, resulting in a personalised and efficient learning experience.
Featured Programmes and Curriculum Innovation: TAFE+ Skills Upgrading and Cutting-Edge Industry Training
To help working professionals rapidly overcome career bottlenecks, North Metropolitan TAFE has pioneered the “TAFE+” programme. Designed specifically for working professionals with some industry experience, this programme offers micro-credentials and customised short-term training in areas such as leadership, project management and entrepreneurship, allowing participants to enhance their skills using spare moments without having to leave their jobs.
Furthermore, the college offers targeted training in sectors facing labour shortages in Western Australia. Its cutting-edge Kep Water Operations Lab has received over 1.1 million Australian dollars in government funding; meanwhile, the Electric Vehicle Training Centre at the Joondalup campus, equipped with industry-leading facilities, trains more than 100 professionals in the new energy sector each year.
Integrating Research Facilities with Work Placements: A Direct Path from Training Labs to Leading Companies
The Institute prioritises investment in research facilities, providing realistic environments that closely mirror the workplace. At the same time, it has established close partnerships with numerous leading companies to offer students bespoke work placement programmes. Furthermore, the Institute provides paid apprenticeships and traineeships, enabling international students to study, earn an income and gain local work experience simultaneously.
